h+h americas Fall Edition Features Moving 9/11 25th Anniversary Memorial Quilt Exhibit by Carol Mesimer

Houston, TX -To mark the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, award-winning quilter and teacher Carol Mesimer will present a memorial quilt exhibit at h+hamericas Fall Edition. The special display features a selection of original textile art started in the immediate aftermath of the attacks to honor the lives lost.

As this solemn milestone approaches, we invite the community to pause and remember all the lives affected by this tragic day in our history. The exhibit serves as a powerful reminder of how craft and the art of making things by hand offer a meaningful way to slow down, process grief, and quietly reflect.

Central to the exhibit is Mesimer’s centerpiece work, Remember Me, which hangs beneath hundreds of hand-lettered fabric strips, each bearing the name of an individual lost on 9/11.

"I remember exactly where I was when I heard," said Carol Mesimer. "While driving my child to a swim lesson, I turned the radio on and heard what had happened... We continued to the lesson, then came home and I started making art out of the chaos. Remember Me was the first of many pieces to honor those lives lost. We must never forget."

At every h+h trade show, Koelnmesse endeavors to feature handmade works that showcase exceptional technique and materials while inviting viewers to reflect, learn, and be moved by art. This exhibit is a particularly meaningful continuation of that tradition, demonstrating the power of handmade work not only as an expression of craft, but also as a way to preserve memory, tell stories, and connect us through shared experience.
